Fashion: Babycakes

Babycakes Clothing.... Now where do I start? Well, Paul Griffiths is a good place to go from. The half emo, half raver king, I guess. A scene god. So what makes him this? His self proclaimed wonderful hair? His perfect bone structure? I think its the ability to take vanity and make it seem like something good.... and I have to agree with him, being fit is pretty fun. But this just can't be the only reason I'm writing about him... Is it? No, definitely not. It's because everyone had to sweat blood to get different bright coloured clothing from different shops.... It can now all be bought from Babycakes. Their webstore has a selection of t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, sunglasses and very short shorts, all quite definitely fluorescent . They also are responsible for kitting out some of the coolest people around, including the incredible Frankmusik.

Apart from making pretty decent clothing (they work with American Apparel), they are also responsible for teenage carnage everywhere. Their parties have almost reached religious status, selling out everytime. If you ever get the chance to go... just do it, yeah?

They also do their part in helping out the lesser commoners, yes Paul does have a heart, promoting the hottest under the radar chiptune artists around, awww.

So, what should we about Babycakes, after all they are changing the stereotype of brooding teenagers to really shiny bright people... I say lets join 'em!

BIG: Deastro

Deastro is the mindbaby of the quite wonderful Randolph Chabot. Only at the quite young age of 22, Chabot has already independently (like really independently, none of that indie lable rubbish who get bought out by Sony or something) released 3 albums and a few EPs.

His music is something else, think White Lies (dark yet powerful) contrasted with the PoP synths of MGMT. The product is a swirling mass of noise, which when it reaches you spread out and each instrument of the song stands out as an element which only add to the song. With this a terrific atomosphere is created, almost psychadelic.

Deastro is definitely going to be the word on everyones lips if his album Moondagger ever reaches the UK.
Best Track: Although it's the most obvious track, Toxic Crusaders is a wonderful, track keeping high tension yet somehow still keeping ridiculously infectious chorus with the chiming glocks.

Deastro can currently be found on Ghostly records. He is on Myspace and he also has his own blog!!!!

His EP Grower is available for free.

Here his a remix for his opening track, Biomimcry:

Monster!Monster!

Today, we have “chiptune” artists Monster!Monster!. I guess I probably need to tell a few people who read this what chiptunes are. Chiptunes are songs which are made from 8bit or 4bit sounds. This pretty much means you get the sounds from your old gameboy games, and make pretty decent, retro, elctronic, funny, rave beast. I think they are one of the best things in the world, however I could understand people who would hate them, probably so much so they would make a Facebook group against them. You can pretty much stereotype everyone who avidly listens to chiptune music: they like bright colours, they wear bright colours and really really like synths. I myself only just found out this was a genre at the beginning of this year, and have been trawling the internet to find worthy people to listen to, of which I have found a few but this post is about Monster!Monster!... maybe a later day...*tries to wink and blinks*

The group is made up of two people, Robbie Quid and another fella called James. They are from Worcester, so if you are from there and you haven't heard of them, then you are very dumb.... Check themout now. I'm posting two tracks which they said are available for free download so I don't think they will mind... I hope. Compared to other chiptuners, these guys are quite melodic, not quite so aggressive... very danceable... very danceable indeed.

1. Hold Me Close Beneath The Sunset

2. Circuitboard City....(i think :-s)

More songs can be found on their
MYSPACE and on their 8bc (which has loads of really good chiptune artists on, they are kind of purist though) If you go on their myspace, they also have really cool t-shirts if your into your flourescent monsters. See yous... xx

Haemostatic Picnic Races

and here's a shot of the lads in action.

mp3 for yous too : "Don't cry wolf cry woo"

New Blog Means HPR!

This, is a blog... Evidently... Basically i'm going to try and share to everyone in this world, everything thats really quite great... But probably mostly music.

First up is a Tunbridge Wells band by the name of Haemostatic Picnic Races. Yes that is their name. HPR looked pretty much like any other indie band, skinny jeans, checked shirt etc... However they produced some crazy alt.punk kinda thing and got the kids punching eachother in the face, which is always a good thing. If I could summarise their sound...(always a very hard thing to do) but bassically, they are a very angry Bloc Party, and the singer can actually shout really hard.

They've already released an album called "Helios! These Are Intructions". Its available from this site for only £2.99... !! All good stuff.

They are on a copious amount of websites:

Much Love To y'all
